The Credit Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough and discreet investigations into the background, financial standing, and credit history of applicants to verify information and determine their ability and willingness to meet financial obligations. The role involves a combination of field work, data analysis, and preparation of detailed reports for lending decisions.

Information Gathering and Verification:

• Conduct personal, residential, and business/employment verification of applicants, often through on-site visits (ocular inspections) or telephone calls.
• Gather and validate customer information from reliable sources, including public records, trade references, credit bureaus, banks, and other financial institutions.
• Perform trade checking to determine the applicant's historical payment habits with suppliers and other creditors.

Analysis and Assessment:

• Review and scrutinize loan or credit card applications and all supporting documents for completeness, accuracy, and authenticity.
• Analyze financial data, credit reports, and other documentation to identify potential discrepancies, evaluate risk factors, and determine the applicant's overall creditworthiness.
• Ensure all investigations and credit assessments comply with internal policies, credit parameters, and industry regulations.

Reporting:

• Prepare and submit accurate, factual, and comprehensive Credit Investigation Reports (CIRs) within established deadlines (Turn-Around-Time or TAT).
• Summarize findings and provide insights and recommendations to loan officers and management to assist in the final credit evaluation and decision-making process.
