  • Works to enhance communication between the Pathology residents, consultants, medical technologists and other staff from other departments.
  • Acts as an advocate for the residents and promotes resident’s interests in conjunction with program needs and functions.
  • Works closely with the Training Officers, particularly in coordinating resident rotation and duty schedules, conferences, orientation programs, social functions, applicant interviews, resident involvement in student teaching, and maintaining resident morale.
  • Reports directly to the Chief Pathologist and Training Officers and inform them, when appropriate, of important issues involving the resident staff.
  • Maintain communication with other residents in the form of meetings, electronic or written memoranda, or by other means.
  • Query the resident about issues as requested by the Chief Pathologist or Training Officer.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as advised by the Chief Pathologist and Training Officers and provide feedback on issues discussed.
  • Strive to maintain morale among the residents.
  • Develop Pathology Resident’s monthly rotation schedule including Anatomic and Clinical Pathology rotations, 24-hour duty schedules, autopsy decking and outside rotation schedules.
  • Maintain and oversee daily resident work activities and schedules.
  • Schedules weekly conferences for Pathology residents (Every Tuesday – Clinical Pathology Conference); Every Friday – Anatomic Pathology Conference). Ensure that the resident is aware of up-coming responsibilities to present at various conferences.
  • Develop Pathology Consultant’s monthly schedule including on-call consultation, frozen section decking, Tumor Board and Tissue Review decking and make appropriate changes during the year as necessary.
  • Facilitates and coordinates extra-departmental conferences [Metrowide Consortium for the Advancement of Pathology (MCAP) Gastrointestinal Conferences, Tumor Boards and Tissue Review for Hematology-Oncology and Brain and Spine for Neurology].
  • Arrange and coordinate any type of leave requests including change of schedules in accordance with the institutional policies (Leave requests will be subject to approval by the Chief Pathologist. In the absence of the Chief Pathologist, the Training Officer or Officer-in-charge will be in-charge in approving requests).
  • Compliance to IMS (Integrated Management System) Standards and Policies.
  • Acts as a laboratory manager including troubleshooting problems wherein Medical Technologists cannot troubleshoot or other laboratory matters that needed to be addressed
