Administrative Duties

  • The safety officer promotes occupational health and safety by identifying hazards, investigating incidents, maintaining safety manuals, and managing department budgets. Communication with staff and policy updates are essential responsibilities.


Advising

  • The officer educates employees on safety issues, forms advisory committees, and promotes safety awareness through training and materials.


Coordinating

  • They coordinate safety training, emergency protocols, hazardous waste handling, and conduct workplace assessments to detect risks.


Policy Development

  • Safety officers create and implement policies to reduce workplace accidents, ensure employee awareness, and monitor compliance.


Inspections

  • Routine inspections are conducted to identify hazards, ensure proper use of protective equipment, and confirm adherence to safety protocols.


Accident Investigations

In case of incidents, the officer investigates causes, documents findings, and recommends preventive measures.


Training and Coaching

  • They assess training needs, develop programs on topics like fire prevention and hazardous materials, and improve them based on employee feedback.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Safety officers ensure compliance with OSHA and local regulations, maintain injury logs, and post required safety notices in the workplace.


SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:


  • To develop, implement and monitor Board / COMPANY Occupational Health and safety policy, programs, and procedures. 
  • To assist the Board/COMPANY in complying with current health and safety legislation and/or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of learners, staff and visitors. 
  • To establish budget proposals for the operation of the Occupational Health and Safety office and specific training programs. 
  • To increase health and safety awareness at all levels within the organization. 
  • To investigate and report on all serious/critical personal injury accidents occurring to students, staff and/or visitors to the appropriate senior official, and to assist in the investigation of all
  • Accidents/incidents that result in substantial damage to board/COMPANY vehicles and property
  • To investigate and report on complaints of hazardous working conditions to the Associate Director and/or other appropriate senior staff. 
  • To respond to employees’ safety concerns. To conduct, as necessary, the safety inspection of any Board/COMPANY facility. 
  • To assist the Board’s Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees.
  • To respond to fires and other emergencies on or about the Board property.
  • To coordinate registration and removal of hazardous waste.
  • To receive reports from and respond to orders issued by Department of Labor inspectors.
  • To arrange for Occupational Health and Safety testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants as may be necessary. 
  • To act as liaison with all related governmental bodies and regulating agencies. 
  • To coordinate the training of personnel in areas of safety, including first aid, CPR, accident prevention and investigation, workplace inspections and other matters related to implementing safety procedures in Board/COMPANY facilities.
  • To coordinate the Board’s emergency procedures and act as the Board’s emergency on-site coordinator.
  • To assist executive staff, senior administrators, principals, and supervisors in emergency preparedness.
  • To develop, review, and update appropriate sections of the Board’s/COMPANY’s Emergency Procedures Manual. 
  • To liaise with municipal and State Emergency planners, update plans, organize exercises and evaluate procedures.
  • To liaise with the fire department regarding emergency procedures, communications, and fire safety education programs. 
  • To coordinate the selection and distribution of emergency communications equipment to schools and administrative/support departments. 

Requisito

  • Engineering Graduate or Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Must have a Safety Officer 3 (SO3) Certificate
  • At least 1 year of Experience as a Safety Officer handling Large Scale projects (Construction, Electrical, Commercial Industry)
  • Strong Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations
